The state election in Bremen in 1983 was the eleventh election for citizenship in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . It took place on September 25, 1983 .

For the SPD, Mayor and Senate President Hans Koschnick stood for the fourth time as the top candidate , his opponent was for the third time the CDU state chairman Bernd Neumann .

Result

The turnout was 79.7 percent. The ruling SPD was able to defend and expand its absolute majority . For the first time, the FDP could not move into the citizenry.

Hans Koschnick was thus re-elected as head of government, Bernd Neumann renounced a new top candidacy after his third defeat.
