State election in Bremen 1991
The citizenship election in Bremen in 1991 was the 13th election for citizenship in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . It took place on September 29, 1991 .
Result
The turnout was 72.2 percent. The sole ruling SPD under Mayor Klaus Wedemeier suffered heavy losses and for the first time since 1971 lost the absolute majority of the seats. As a result, the first traffic light coalition of the SPD, FDP and the Greens was formed in a West German state - the coalition in Brandenburg formed in November 1990 was a link between the SPD and the FDP and the East German Alliance 90 , which had not yet merged with the Greens would have. The German People's Union , which had only jumped the five percent hurdle in Bremerhaven in the previous election in 1987 , was now able to jump this hurdle in Bremen and entered a state parliament for the first time in faction strength.
