The citizenship election in Bremen 1979 was the tenth election for citizenship in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . It took place on October 7, 1979 . The election attracted nationwide attention, as with the Bremen Green List , a Green Party moved into a state parliament for the first time .

In this election, Mayor and Senate President Hans Koschnick (SPD) and Bernd Neumann (CDU) competed against each other.

Result

The turnout was 78.5 percent. The ruling SPD was able to defend its absolute majority , Koschnick remained mayor.
