The state election in Bremen in 1995 was the 14th election for citizenship in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . It took place as an early election on May 14, 1995 after the traffic light coalition ( SPD , FDP and Greens ), the Wedemeier III Senate , which had ruled since 1991 , was broken.

Result

The turnout was 68.6 percent.

The SPD and FDP as members of the broken traffic light coalition lost votes, the FDP missed the five percent hurdle. The big winner of the election was the Arbeits für Bremen und Bremerhaven (AFB), which split off from the SPD in January 1995. The DVU, which had been represented in the parliament since 1987, also no longer moved into parliament. The PDS ran for the first time in a West German federal state and received 2.4%.

The previous mayor and SPD top candidate, Klaus Wedemeier , announced his resignation after the election.

After the election, the SPD and CDU formed a grand coalition under Henning Scherf (SPD).
