The citizenship election in Bremen in 1987 was the twelfth election for citizenship in the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen . It took place on September 13, 1987 .

Klaus Wedemeier ran for the first time as the top candidate for the SPD, who had succeeded Hans Koschnick as mayor and senate president in 1985 . Reinhard Metz ran for the first time as a top candidate for the CDU .

Result

The turnout was 75.6 percent. The ruling SPD was able to defend its absolute majority again. The FDP was able to move back into the citizenship after four years. New to the citizenship was the German People's Union (List D), which was represented in the citizenship by jumping the five percent hurdle in Bremerhaven .
