history

With the opening of the Frankfurt– Friedberg section of the Main-Weser Railway, Bad Vilbel station went into operation on May 10, 1850. The entire route of the Main-Weser Railway from Kassel to Frankfurt has been used since May 15, 1852.

On June 1, 1907, the section between Vilbel Nord (today: Bad Vilbel ) and Heldenbergen - Windecken (today: Nidderau ) of the Niddertal Railway was opened. On this occasion, a new reception building was built and put into operation. Today it is a cultural monument according to the Hessian Monument Protection Act , is closed and is no longer available to the public. Since May 4, 2008, the Niddertalbahn has also had weekend traffic again.

On May 28, 1978 the Rhein-Main S-Bahn was put into operation. Since then, the Bad Vilbel station has been served by the S6 line (route since 1992: Friedberg – Bad Vilbel– Frankfurt Hbf (deep) - Frankfurt Süd ).

Infrastructure

The Bad Vilbeler Bahnhof has extensive track systems. Five platform tracks (four through and one stub track ) are available for passenger traffic . In 2012, the reconstruction of the platforms began, with which accessibility should be achieved. There are also several tracks without platforms that can be used for freight traffic .

  • Track 5 is a through track and is located on the eastern island platform next to track 7. This is where the Niddertalbahn trains connected to Frankfurt and individual trains to Nidda run. If a long-distance train in the direction of Gießen is scheduled to run on the Main-Weser-Bahn, the S-Bahn to be overtaken is waiting here.
  • Track 6 is a stump track that leads north to the platform of tracks 5/7. Individual trains of the Niddertal Railway begin and end here.
  • Track 7 is a through track and the main track of the Main-Weser-Bahn in the direction of Kassel.
  • Track 8 is the main track of the Main-Weser-Bahn in the direction of Frankfurt and shares with track 9 the western island platform.
  • Track 9 is again a through track. It is used as an alternative and overtaking track.

The ticket office closed at the end of 2003. Unfortunately, you won't find any toilet facilities either.
