Barrado is a municipality in the province of Cáceres in the autonomous region of Extremadura ( Spain ).
The place is halfway between La Vera and the Valle del Jerte (Jertetal), to whose association it belongs, although geographically it is not in the Jerte valley. The local area borders in the north on the municipality of Piornal , in the east on the municipality Arroyomolinos de la Vera , in the south on the municipality Gargüera de la Vera and in the west on the municipalities of Casas del Castañar and Cabrero .
The distance to Plasencia is 24 km, to the provincial capital Cáceres 102 km, to the capital of Extremadura Mérida 171 km and to Madrid 251 km.
Geographical location
Barrado is located in the foothills of the Sierra de Gredos , one of the three mountain ranges of the Iberian Divisional Mountains, more precisely on the slope of the Cerro de La Vetún mountain in the Sierra de Tormantos mountain range , which in turn joins the Sierra de San Bernabé , the southern foothills of the Sierra de Gredos, heard.
The municipality of Barrados covers a relatively small area with large differences in altitude, from 657 m (near Gargüera de la Vera ) to 1115 m (summit of Cerro de la Porrilla).
The area is criss-crossed by several water-bearing gorges (e.g. the Garganta del Obispo ) and streams, all of which belong to the catchment area of the Tiétar and thus to that of the Tagus , which flows into the Atlantic Ocean near Lisbon .
climate
Due to its geographical location, Barrado enjoys a relatively moderate climate, with fresh summers and mild winters. The rainfall is abundant and varies between 800 and 1500 mm. The mean daily low temperature is between 1 and 3 ° C in winter and between 15 and 20 ° C in summer.

economy
The main economic sector is agriculture, mainly the cultivation of cherries, olives, chestnuts and figs. After the establishment of the agricultural cooperative Cooperativa del Campo de Nuestra Señora del Viso in the 1960s, there was a significant improvement in the economic situation, which prevented the drastic decline in population that was taking place in the rest of Extremadura at that time.
The service and construction sectors are also playing an increasingly important economic role.
Livestock farming consists mainly of cattle and goats. While commercial cattle breeding has remained constant since the middle of the 20th century, the economic and social importance of goat breeding has decreased significantly. Pig breeding is carried out exclusively for personal consumption.
Attractions
The main attraction is the parish church of San Sebastián .
