Aliseda is a small town in western Spain and a municipality (municipio) with 1,835 inhabitants (as of 2019) in the province of Cáceres in the autonomous community of Extremadura .
location
The place Aliseda is located on the northern edge of the maximum 650 m high Sierra de San Pedro not far from the border with Portugal at an altitude of approximately 350 m. The distance to the provincial capital Cáceres is almost 35 km (driving distance) in a northeasterly direction; the historically significant towns of Alcántara and Alburquerque are located approx. 45 km northwest and approx. 38 km south-west, respectively. The climate is temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 580 mm / year) falls mainly in the winter half-year.

history
As a treasure find (Tesoro de Aliseda) proves, the area was already settled in the late Bronze Age and in pre-Christian times. The Romans and Visigoths hardly left any traces. In the 8th century, Arab- Berber armies overran the region, which was not established by Alfonso IX until 1230 . was recaptured from León for the Christians ( reconquista ) ; then there was a new or resettlement ( repoblación ) by Christians from the north of the Iberian Peninsula and by refugees from Andalusia ( mudéjares ) . In the period that followed, there were repeated armed conflicts with the Kingdom of Portugal , which claimed the area for itself. As a quasi-border town, Aliseda benefited from various tax exemption privileges well into the 16th century.

- There are several sources in the village and its immediate vicinity.
- During private excavations in a mound of earth ( tumulus ) on the outskirts of the village, several finds made of bronze , iron , silver , gold and glass were discovered in 1920 , which became known as the Aliseda Treasure (Tesoro de Aliseda) . Some researchers date the treasure find to around 700 to 400 BC. Postulated; Both the Phoenicians and the culture of Tartessos are brought into play as possible manufacturers .
