Bastard Saints is an Italian brutal death metal and grindcore band from Varese that was formed in 1997.

history

The band was founded in 1997 by the guitarist Fiorenzo Quintiero and the singer Andrea Marino, the band name coming from a song title by the band Sinister . A first demo followed in 1998 under the name Hanged for a Blessed Masturbation . A short time later, the EP Disinfect with Terrorism was recorded with bassist Fabio Coviello von Nefas . This was released in 2000 as a split release with Christ Denied via Macabre Mementos Records . In the same year Paolo Rossi joined as bassist. In 2002 the Flood Records was followed by another split release under the title Ropes Above on Abyss of Fury , in which Nefas also took part. Together, both bands went on a small European tour with performances in the Czech Republic , Germany and Belgium to promote the release. In 2002, the band played with Antigama , Nefas and Pignation at the Grind Manifesto in Poland , where a joint release called Grind Manifesto 2 appeared, which included all four bands with songs that were played at the festival. Then it went on a tour through Europe. After several line-up changes, Simone Sgarella joined the group as the new drummer in the same year. In 2003 the self-produced EP La Uno Bianca: To Arm the Integrity was recorded at Avatars Studios in Milan and mixed by Tom Pagotto . In 2004 the EP La Uno Bianca: Hydrophobia in Uniform was released including the recording of a cover version of Agnostic Fronts Friend or Foe . In 2005 a split-release with Antigama followed, which was released on Antiself Records under the name Radiation Sickness / Thirteen Stabwounds , whereupon the band also covered Mortician . Excerpts from this are included on the samplers Musik Terro Vol. 1 from Morbid Records , Brutal Assault 6.66 from Shindy Records (Czech Republic), Propulsive Symphonies ( France ), Sadist Compilation ( Indonesia ) and Horrorific Liquiscent Aftermath ( Australia ). To Thirteen Stabwounds was in the Boulevard Studios under the direction of Morris FAVALESSA a video created. In November 2009 the band played in Saint Petersburg at the Petrogrind Fest before a compilation of all previously recorded songs was released under the name Inhale the Futuristic Filthiness on Burning Dogma Records in 2010 . In 2012, the debut album The Shape of My Will was released on The Spew Records , a sub-label of Punishment 18 Records . The album was recorded at 16 Cellar Studio in 2008 and then mastered by Alberto Cutolo in Milan at the Massive Arts Studio . In 2012 Tom Pagotto joined as the new drummer and Andrea Serrao as the new guitarist. So far the band has performed with groups such as Awful, Cripple Bastards , Necrodeath , Purgatory , Sanatorium , Antigama, Behemoth , November , Cadaveria , Horrid , Mind Snare , Dysmorphic, Brainwash, Goreopsy, Necrophagist ; Disgorge , Cerebral Turbolency , Inferia , Sickening and Hateful . The group has also appeared at festivals such as Assault Brutal , Grind Your Mother and Metal Disorder .

style

Stephan Möller from Metal.de wrote in his review of The Shape of My Will that the group plays Brutal Death Metal, whereby the use of only one guitar puts the bass in the foreground. The electric guitar plays technically relatively demanding riffs . The speed is usually high and is rarely throttled. Influences of straightforward grindcore can also be heard in the songs. Dead Evangelist Praying reminds me with its slam set pieces almost of modern deathcore . In the further course there would also be similarities to Cannibal Corpse at the time of Tomb of the Mutilated . Overall, the songs are not very catchy due to the high speed. Björn Backes from Powermetal.de also reviewed the album and summarized the music as aggressive Grindcore, in which the band for the most part dispensed with conventional song structures. The songs are designed quite versatile and suitable for fans of Cannibal Corpse and Brutal Truth . Joe A. from musikreviews.de described the music on the album as Death Metal- heavy Grindcore, which was cleanly produced but "still snotty". The songs are characterized by breaks and you can hear slap sounds from the bass over and over again . Joe A. also recommended the album to Brutal Truth fans.
