The place is located about 25 kilometers northwest of Linz , 14 kilometers before Rohrbach , between Niederwaldkirchen and Ortisei, just north of the former and 2 kilometers east of the second.

The scattered houses Baumgartsau are in Zentralmühlviertler highlands on the 500- 600  m above sea level. A. Höhe, in the valley of the upper Pesenbach , one of the smaller main rivers of the Mühlviertel, which then flows into the Danube in the Eferdinger basin . The scattered settlement comprises almost 40 buildings with around 140 residents.

The Niederwaldkirchner locality forms the much larger part (35 buildings, 120 inhabitants) and is distributed from the Pesenbach on the Niederwaldkirchner outskirts, where the Rotte Auhäuseln belonging to the locality is located, this upwards over the Steibelmühle to Steinbach , and - south of the Baumgartner Bach, which joins from the right - am Riedel west of Niederwaldkirchen. At the Baumgartnerbach and northwards above the Pesenbach also runs the municipality boundary to Ortisei, there are five more farmsteads on the hill as a locality of St. Ulrich.

history

The local situation as such is relatively young and first appears to 1788. It is, after Baumgartnergut  (no. 11), a typical farm name to tree garden , and called his Auwiesen location below. In the 19th century - besides the Auhäuseln and the Stäubelmühl - only a few farms are noted by name.

Transport and infrastructure

The southern locations on the Riedel crosses the L1513  Niederwaldkirchener Straße (L1512 near Drautendorf - Niederwaldkirchen - L1511  Herzogsdorfer Straße and L1510   Eschelbergstraße near Wigretsberg ). The L1512  Haslacher Straße (B127  Rohrbacher Straße - St. Peter am Wimberg - Haslach an der Mühl ) then passes to the west. Otherwise there are only local roads to the neighboring towns. Steibelmühle and Steinbach are bus stops.

The Mühlviertler Mittellandweg , one of the large Mühlviertel hiking trails, runs in variant 150A through the village, as does the round Wimberg-Panorama-Mühlenweg .
