The 35th Bavaria Tour took place from May 28 to June 1, 2014. The category 2nd HC cycling race was held in five stages, including an individual time trial , over a total distance of 784.1 kilometers. The overall winner was the British Olympic champion Geraint Thomas from the Sky ProCycling team . The Canadian Christian Meier ( Orica GreenEdge ) won the mountain classification, Sam Bennett ( Team NetApp-Endura ) the sprint classification and Thibaut Pinot ( Team FDJ.fr ) the junior classification. The winner of the team classification was the British team Sky ProCycling.

The rainy first stage, which started in Vilshofen on the Danube and led over 201.6 km, was won by the German-Australian Heinrich Haussler in Freilassing in a mass sprint ahead of Jauheni Hutarowitsch and Steele Von Hoff .

The Swiss Mathias Frank won the second stage, which was also rainy, over 165 km from Freilassing up to the Winklmoos-Alm . Thibaut Pinot was second, Leopold König third. The German drivers in the field lost touch in the mountain stage.

In the third stage over 233 km from Grassau to Neusäß , a quartet of leaders around the attacking Jens Voigt was taken off the field. The South African Daryl Impey won in the mass sprint ahead of Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Alexander Porsew .

The individual time trial in Wassertrüdingen was won by Olympic and world champion Geraint Thomas from Team Sky. Czech time trial champion Jan Bárta (Team NetApp-Endura) took second place ahead of Russian Vorobjow (Team Katusha).

On the 5th stage over 160 km from Wassertrüdingen to Nuremberg nothing changed in the overall standings (traditionally), Sam Bennett won the stage in the mass sprint ahead of Jauheni Hutarowitsch and Raymond Kreder . 30,000 cycling fans were counted in the finish area.

Overall rating

The overall winner was Geraint Thomas from Team Sky ProCycling , which also won the team classification. Mathias Frank (Switzerland) was second ahead of the Belarusian Wassil Kiryjenka . The Canadian Christian Meier ( Orica GreenEdge ) won the mountain classification, Sam Bennett ( Team NetApp-Endura ) the sprint classification and Thibaut Pinot (Team FDJ.fr) the junior classification. The best German driver in the overall standings was Christian Knees in fourteenth.
