action

Somewhere in the German province: Chief Accountant Pichler is supposed to hand over the wages for a business transaction to the boss of his company, in truth a cunning fraudster. Since Director Härtel is in a great hurry, instead of the bag with the money, he takes another one in which Pichler got his breakfast from his wife Ludmilla. Immediately afterwards, the boss goes off and on. Pichler, a hyper-correct man, notices this and immediately wants to follow his boss to Hamburg with the wages that have been left behind. With him in tow he has his subordinate colleague accountant Vittgers.

The “pit of sin” of the big city with its all kinds of temptations makes the two otherwise cautious number jugglers more than reckless, and they knock a lot of the supervised money on the head with a touch of joie de vivre. Only Pichler's daughter Anneliese can prevent worse things and save the rest of the money from crooks and light ladies. Even the company boss Härtel can no longer get the money with which he wanted to set himself apart. In view of so much honesty and trustworthiness, chief accountant Pichler is ultimately chosen as the successor to his arrested ex-boss. There is also a happy ending in private. Pichler's loyal friend Vittgers is going to marry his good daughter.

Further films

At Pichler the box office is not right , based on a template by Alfred Polgar , it was the second film adaptation of this material. In 1931 Fritz Kortner shot the story under the title Der brave Sünder with Max Pallenberg and Heinz Rühmann . Jean-Pierre Mocky, on the other hand, staged a remake in a Franco-German joint production in 1965 under the title Money or Life , again with Rühmann, who this time had Fernandel as a partner.

Reviews

“This story of the two accountants from the provinces who go astray against all intentions goes back to a comedy by the famous theater man Alfred Polgar. What he wrote with a sharp pen was apparently edited with a rather blunt red pencil for the script directed by Hans Quest. Still, you can't be outright angry, because Theo Lingen and Georg Thomalla don't give you the time. They deal with every "piece of clothing" and have partners like Ruth Stephan and Edith Hancke. These names alone are a program. "
