Bennostrasse (Radebeul)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bennostraße is a city road in the Saxon town of Radebeul , in the districts Serkowitz and Oberlößnitz .

Bennostraße, together with Augustusweg and Weinbergstraße , is mentioned in the Dehio manual as an example of the old cultural landscape of mansions on the slope and pleasure houses above the steep vineyards, which are rich in the medieval vineyards owned by the Dresden and Meißnian nobility and in modern succession Citizen emerged.

Development

The numbering of the house addresses begins at Hörningplatz on the north side of the street, i. H. From there, numbers 1 to 41 run on the left-hand side of the street, and on the right-hand side of the street it goes to number 44.

Many of the buildings on Bennostraße are now listed and are therefore listed in the list of cultural monuments in Radebeul-Serkowitz and in the list of cultural monuments in Radebeul-Oberlößnitz :

The plots on the north side of the street belong to the historical vineyard landscape of Radebeul .

The Bennoschlößchen was listed as an art monument in Dehio's rapid inventory in 1905 and also described in Gurlitt's 1904 monument inventory and illustrated with drawings. During the GDR era, the ensemble of Bennoschlößchen and Haus Steinbach, as well as the neighboring house Sorgenfrei on Augustusweg 48, was considered a monument to cultural history .

The vineyards located here belong to the Radebeuler Goldener Wagen site and thus to the major Saxon site of Radebeuler Lößnitz .

Naming

The historic Weinbergsweg, running from west to east parallel to the slope edge, was called Mittelgasse in earlier centuries , when the higher Weinbergstraße was called Obere Berggasse and the lower street made up of parts of Nizzastraße and Maxim-Gorki-Straße was called Niedere Berggasse .

In 1897 it was renamed Mittlere Bergstraße and in 1903 it was dedicated to the name Bennostraße , which is still valid today , after the former bishop and saint Benno von Meißen .
