Benoît Fromanger

Benoît Fromanger (born May 26, 1959 in Paris ) is a French conductor, flautist and music teacher.

Fromanger studied flute with Roger Bourdin at the Conservatoire National in Versailles (gold medal) and continued his training at the Conservatoire de Paris with Alain Marion and Jean-Pierre Rampal . He received the First Prize of the Conservatory. He then became principal flutist of the Orchester de l'Opéra de Paris , then of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra ; He was also a member of the Orchester National du Capitole de Toulouse and appeared as a guest of the Berlin Philharmonic , the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival . The conductors he has worked with include Lorin Maazel , Leonard Bernstein , Bernard Haitink , Zubin Mehta , Wolfgang Sawallisch , Carlo Maria Giulini , Daniel Barenboim , Pierre Boulez , Colin Davis , Georg Solti , Carlos Kleiber , Riccardo Muti and Mariss Jansons .

As a chamber musician, Fromanger was a member of various ensembles and performed with artists such as András Schiff , Jessye Norman , Carolyn Carlson , François Leleux , Katia and Marielle Labèque , Maxim Vengerov , Sting , Mischa Maisky , Claude Bolling , Juliette Hurel , Alessandro Barrico , Viktoria Mullova , Corina Belcea , İdil Biret , Mariko Harada , Wenzel Fuchs , Hans-Georg Rickenbacher , Ozier Aydin , Naoko Shimizu , Bertrand Chamayou , Eric Schumann , Bernard Soustrot , David Guerrier , Richard Galliano and Gérard Depardieu .

As a conductor, he has directed the Metropolitan Orchestra in Montréal, the Virtuosi von Kuhmo (Finland), the Ljubljana Radio Philharmonic Orchestra , the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra , the Amazonas Philharmonic Manaus , the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz and the Radio-TV Swiss Italiana Orchestra Lugano and has been the musical director of the Bucharest Symphony Orchestra since 2011.

Under the direction of Francois-Xavier Roth , Fromanger gave the world premiere of the Flute Concerto by Claude Pascal in 1997 and Philippe Hurel in 2006. As a conductor, he made recordings for various record labels, including the Cantatas by Thierry Machuel and the world's first recording of the orchestral work by Mel Bonis . He was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros , the Grand Prix du Disque and in 2000 the Diapason d'Or . Since 2004 he has been professor for flute at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin .
