The Birghorn is a 3243  m above sea level. M. high mountain in Switzerland in the Bernese Alps .

It lies on the border of the cantons of Bern and Valais between the Gastern Valley in the north and the Lötschental in the south and forms the highest elevation of the ridge between Hockenhorn and Kl. Tschingelhorn (3495 m). East of the Birghorn the ridge continues glaciated as Petersgrat to Tschingelhorn, to the west are Elwertätsch , Sackhorn and Hockenhorn one after the other . To the south of the mountain lies the Tellingletscher , to the north of it smaller glaciers such as the Birggletscher , which used to be part of the Kanderfirn nutrient area . The outflow takes place in the north via Kander and Aare into the Rhine and in the south via Lonza in the Rotten ; the Birghorn is therefore on the main European watershed .

The mountain is far from any tourist facilities, but can be done as an alpine hike / easy high-altitude tour . There are no mountain huts, apart from the Mutthornhütte , about 5 km away as the crow flies . Starting points for an ascent are the Gandegg mountain station above Lauchernalp on the south side or the Mutthornhütte on the north side.
