Svala Björgvinsdóttir [ ˈsvaːla ˈpjœrkvɪnsˌtouhtɪr ] (born February 8, 1977 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic singer , model and fashion designer . She is active both as a solo artist and as the front woman of the band Steed Lord (under the stage name Kali ).

Musical career

Svala took part in the Söngvakeppnin 2017 . After she was able to get into the top three in the second semifinals with the song Ég veit það on March 4, she won the final the week after. She therefore represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kiev , but there with the English version of Paper . After participating in the first semi-final, she was unable to qualify for the final of the competition.

She lived in Los Angeles until 2018 . She was married to Einar Egilsson from 2013 to 2018. She has lived in Reykjavík since 2018 and is in a relationship with the jewelry designer Gauti Sigurðarson (* 1995). Her father is Björgvin Helgi Halldórsson , who represented Iceland at the ESC in 1995 .
