On November 4, 1949, the sports club was founded as the “Railway Sports Club Buchholz von 1949”, which was initially entered in the register of associations as “ESV Blau-Weiss Buchholz eV from 1949” and then later as “SV Blau-Weiss Buchholz eV from 1949”. In 1999, for the 50th anniversary, it was renamed to today's "Blau-Weiss Buchholz eV" with a corresponding change in the logo.

In 1971 the first "SV Blau-Weiss office" was opened at Lindenstrasse 2, a barrack with an adjoining kindergarten. In 1981 the office was set up at Sprötzer Weg 31a, the planning of which had already been decided in 1976 with the construction of the clubhouse at Sprötzer Weg. The sports facilities were spread across Buchholz.

In November 2006, after five years of preparatory work and two years of planning and construction, today's Blau-Weiss Buchholz eV sports center on Holzweg was completed.

In 2012, the Blau-Weiss Buchholz climbing center was set up on the site, which was supplemented with an outdoor climbing wall in 2013. The last construction measure was the expansion of one of the two roof terraces in 2013 to expand the club's own fitness studio to 380 m² of training space and the construction of another room for gymnastics and yoga.

The entire facility of the Blau-Weiss Buchholz sports center now has an area of around 25,000 m². The main building offers 2000 m² of usable space and 1000 m² of sports space as well as changing and shower rooms. Outside, the club has six tennis courts, a boules court with international dimensions, an integrative sports and leisure facility and a children's playground. The entire facility is handicapped accessible, with ramps, elevator and appropriate sanitary facilities. All levels are accessible by wheelchair. The association covers part of its energy needs with its own solar cells.

On May 1, 2014, the SGH Rosengarten -Buchholz formed a syndicate with Blau-Weiss Buchholz with the aim of introducing young handball talents from across the region to the performance-oriented senior teams and pooling their organizational strengths. The syndicate was called "SG Handball Blau Weiss Rosengarten-Buchholz". Blau-Weiss founded a handball department for the cooperation. This cooperation ended on June 30, 2017.

On July 1, 2016, the Latin formations of TSV Buchholz 08 switched to Blau-Weiss Buchholz. The formations start in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga, Oberliga Nord and Landesliga Nord Latin.

Handicap sport

A characteristic of the association since 2010 and a particular concern of the association's management is the effort to comprehensively promote health and disabled sports with the aim of exemplary integration and inclusion in the association.

An extraordinary measure of Blau-Weiss Buchholz in this context was the development and construction of an integrative pilot facility for sport and leisure for people with and without disabilities. This facility is considered special because it is the only one of its kind in the Federal Republic. It was planned in 2008, 2009 and opened in 2010. Blau-Weiss Buchholz has been awarded the Günther Volker Prize for its commitment to sports for the disabled, as the facility exemplifies efforts to integrate and embrace the idea of inclusion.

The facility extends over 6300 m² and has various sports and adventure opportunities on the site. There are 10 different facilities and adventure trails in the open space that have been specially designed and integrated for children and adults who are dependent on wheelchairs.

Sports enthusiasts can use a basketball, badminton and volleyball field, a wheelchair-accessible table tennis table, an asphalt circuit (240 meters long, 4 meters wide), a handicapped-accessible trampoline and handicapped-accessible play equipment: slide, carousel, seesaw, net swing for training and competitions , a water-sand play area, wind chimes, castle maze. There is also a fireplace for grilling. The adventure trail is the starting point for many stimulating experiences that were previously not possible in other playgrounds for people with disabilities. The whole thing is complemented by a bowling alley adapted to the needs of the disabled in the main building, where the sanitary facilities are also located.

In 2013, Lower Saxony's interior minister Boris Pistorius and the state's disability officer, Karl Finke, visited the club's integrative sports and leisure facility, whose nationwide concept for barrier-free sport serves as a role model.

On January 1, 2014, Blau-Weiss Buchholz was recognized by the Disabled Sports Association of Lower Saxony (BSN), along with five other sports clubs, as an athletics location for the promotion of talented young people with disabilities, who are characterized by regular training and competitions to promote popular, competitive and Award competitive sport for people with a disability. In addition to the cooperation with the BSN, athletics locations offer regular training (if possible in inclusive groups) and expansion of their offer for athletes with disabilities. The athletics locations are intended to serve as a model for other clubs. The project goals, in particular the creation of motivation, training and competition offers, are implemented together with the BSN.

On June 2, 2013, an outside climbing wall was built with a climbing area of 300 m². The club has the largest climbing hall in Lower Saxony with a climbing height of up to 17.5 meters and up to 300 climbing routes with levels of difficulty from 3 (easy) to 10 (difficult).

In the meantime, the system has been supplemented with a special impact protection floor to avoid injuries and sanitary facilities. The outer wall is illuminated with spotlights for the possibility of climbing in the dark or night climbing.

The climbing center is a member of the German Alpine Association eV , Hamburg and Niederelbe section.

Buchholz city run

Logo of the Buchholz city run. The color varies annually.

The Buchholz city run is the largest running event and the only city run in the region.

After the organization had organized various cross-races in the extensive forest area around the Buchholzer Brunsberg , the idea of a city run developed in 1997 that did not yet exist in the region. In 1999 Blau-Weiss finally started the 1st Buchholz city run with distances between 650 and 9,400 meters. Right from the start, inline skating with a distance of 3,000 meters and 10,000 meters was included in the competition, for which TSV Buchholz 08 was given responsibility. There were seven competitions in total. 750 runners took part straight away.

At the 2nd Buchholz city run in 2000, the “Champion Chip” ( running chip ) was offered on the foot for precise time measurement. The run started on Saturday afternoon at 4.15 p.m., which was not applauded by the local business people, as the shopping hours were to be extended on Saturdays and the entire city center had to be closed for the city run.

The 3rd Buchholz city run was postponed to Sunday, starting in the morning, which then led to clear protests from the churches in Buchholz. The compromise that was then reached was that around noon, before the children's runs, a “noon prayer for the city run” should be given by a church representative, which can be heard over 35 loudspeakers throughout the city.

The Buchholzer Stadtlauf is now the largest event of its kind in the city, with almost 3000 participants and more than 20,000 spectators. The number of competitions has now grown to eleven, including a half marathon and a relay competition.

In 2013, the organizers were able to successfully celebrate the 15th anniversary, which was planned as the last event for the city run and for the chief organizer Arno Reglitzky because of the exhausting, time-consuming and cost-intensive handling and implementation. After lengthy negotiations, the Buchholz city run will continue, as many helpers from his environment and many business people have agreed to provide increased support.
