Blockplatin is the third solo album by the German rapper Haftbefehl from Offenbach am Main . It was released on January 25, 2013 via the Azzlackz label (distributed by Groove Attack ) and was indexed on October 1, 2015. The album is divided into two parts, "Block" and "Platinum".

Emergence

Blockplatin is divided into two CDs, a block and a platinum side. According to the arrest warrant, an artistic subdivision of the album should be made. The block side should contain classic street rap in the style of Haftbefehl's solo debut album Azzlack Stereotype , which was released in 2010 , while the platinum side is based on contemporary American rap. Arrest warrant named DJ Khaled , Drake and Rick Ross as influences.

Haftbefehl already began working on block platinum while writing his predecessor Kanackis . But he wrote on the different pages of the album in different cities, on the block page in Frankfurt am Main and the platinum page in Düsseldorf .

marketing

Until immediately before the album Blockplatin was released , it was mainly marketed in the internet-based German rap media. An example of this would be a special Aggro Alarm: Sido on aggro.tv, the YouTube channel of the former record company Aggro Berlin , which, in addition to a multi-part video interview with the journalist and former Royal Bunker label boss Marcus Staiger and a exclusive pre-release of the album title You know I know with two contributions for the online television format Shut up . These were the album titles Blockparty and Nur du bist Baba . The publication of the latter title also served to award an arrest warrant that the artist had previously achieved more than 6 million YouTube views with a contribution to the format.

The hip-hop magazine Juice dedicated the cover story of its March / April issue to the occasion of the album's release. The magazine included an EP with 6 exclusive titles entitled Azzlack Kommandant .

In addition, arrest warrant published music videos for a total of 9 tracks on the album and also released the track Chabos know who the Babo is as a single, where it reached number 30 and stayed in the top 100 for a total of 8 weeks. Chabos know who the Babo is is the first title with which Haftbefehl was able to place itself in the German single charts.

On May 13, 2013 arrest also came together with Veysel as a band from the pay phone in the ProSieben - late-night talk show Circus Halligalli on, presenting parts of its single Chabos know who the Babo and the album title Azzlack stereotype and late check-out .

The criticism's reactions to block platinum were mostly positive.

From the hip-hop magazine Juice was block platinum rated 5 of 6 crowns. Author Ndilyo Nimindé rated Blockplatin as an "album of threatening hardness, but at the same time more humorous than the entire comedy business in Germany" and praised the dynamic, albeit often difficult to understand, use of the German language. The titles Azzlack Motherfuck , Welcome to Alemania and Late Checkout were particularly highlighted . The only point of criticism he cited was that the artist could not keep his quality quite above the above-average total number of tracks, but Blockplatin still declared it to be "one of the best [...] rap albums of recent years".

The e-zine Laut.de awarded 3 out of 5 points and also particularly emphasized the linguistic quality of the album. Author Max Brandl judged that the arrest warrant would create a sometimes “aggressively boring, sometimes relaxed, but always unmistakable voice and a very unorthodox emphasis on many passages [...] a strange and fascinating game with the German language” and praised the artist's authenticity his increased willingness to experiment compared to his predecessor works. Also highlighted the title Late Checkout and Mann im Spiegel . On the other hand, some titles on the platinum side were criticized, in particular First Heaven is Limit and Only You Are Baba as well as the fact that Blockplatin was advertised as a double album given its short total playing time .

Oliver Marquart from Rap.de awarded Blockplatin 9 out of 10 possible points and judged that the album was "a street trap classic that is in a league with" Vom Bordstein bis zur Skyline ", the re-release of ' Blut gegen Blut ' or ' Carlo Cokxxx Hookers ' plays “, be.

In a review of the album for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Daniel Haas called arrest warrant an “artistic genius” and justified this with the language of arrest warrant. This process "Turkish, Arabic, English, Italian, Spanish" into a "maelstrom [...] ingeniously mumbling [r] abbreviation rhetoric". It is a "slang that messes up slang forms" and "turns German phonetics upside down". Accordingly, the warrant expression is a metalanguage . He also describes that with an arrest warrant there was “no desire for a social upward movement”, but “only the grotesquely exaggerated staging of the exchange”.

Andreas Hartmann describes in an article for the taz that the album has "new and interesting aspects" from the "worn out genre" gangster rap. He uses the "stylistic devices exaggeration and self-irony" more purposefully than the "specialists for grotesque productions from the Berlin label Aggro ". Thematically, a connection between the arrest warrant's social background and an “overstylized image of Frankfurt” can be recognized. Arrest warrant use his artificial language "skillfully". Hartmann expresses criticism of "clumsy anti-Semitism ", which he accuses of arrest warrant.

Commercial win

The album reached number 4 in the German album charts and stayed in the top 100 for 5 weeks. In Austria it reached number 6 and remained in the charts for 3 weeks. In Switzerland it was 7th and stayed in the charts for just as long. Block platinum thus represents the greatest chart success of arrest warrant in all three countries.
