The Blue Grass Airport ( IATA code : LEX , ICAO code : KLEX ) is the commercial airport of the American metropolis Lexington in Fayette County in the US state of Kentucky . The airport is also home to the Aviation Museum of Kentucky .

Location and transport links

Blue Grass Airport is nine kilometers west of downtown Lexington. US Highway 60 runs north of the airport, and Kentucky Route 1968 east of the airport . There is also a junction three kilometers northeast of the airport on Kentucky Route 4 , which is a ring road around Lexington.

Blue Grass Airport is integrated into local public transport by buses , and Lextran Route 21 regularly connects it with the city center.

The current passenger terminal was opened on April 22, 1976. In April 2007 Concourse B was opened with six new gates .

The size of the airport area is 3.69 km², which is home to two runways and a passenger terminal .

The tower (TWR) sends and receives on the frequency : 119.1  MHz . The airport has various navigation aids. The non-directional radio beacon (NDB) transmits on the frequency: 242  kHz with the identifier: LE. The rotating radio beacon (VOR) transmits on frequency : 112.6  MHz with the identifier: HYK.

Blue Grass Airport is used by Allegiant Air , American Eagle , Delta Air Lines / Delta Connection and United Express . Delta Air Lines' market share, including Delta Connection, was 43 percent in 2019, followed by American Eagle with 29 percent, Allegiant Air with 16 percent and United Express with 12 percent.

There are direct flights from Blue Grass Airport to 18 destinations in the United States , all of which are east of the Rocky Mountains . Mainly the hubs of the individual airlines are served.
