Bombus ( Latin : bumblebees ) is a Swedish heavy metal / hard rock band from Gothenburg . The band is under contract with Century Media and has released three studio albums to date.
history
The band was founded in 2008 by the drummer Frederik "Fefe" Berglund and the guitarist Mattias "Matte" Säker. A year later the bassist Ulf Lundén and the drummer Peter Asp (ex- Mary Beats Jane ) completed the band, while Frederik Berglund switched to guitar. Also in 2009 the band released two 7 "singles through the record label Mourningwood Recordings founded by Frederik Berglund , before the self-titled debut album followed in 2010. In 2011 the band released the single A Safe Passage / Cult Leader and performed at the Siesta! - Festival . Bassist Ulf Lundén left the band a year later, but he remained connected to Bombus by designing the album covers. He was succeeded by Jonas Rydberg, who was replaced in 2015 by Ola Henriksson.
Together with producers Olle Björk and Per Stålberg, the band began work on their second studio album, which dragged on over a longer period of time. At the end of 2012, Bombus toured Europe as the opening act for Danko Jones , before another European tour followed in the spring of 2013 as the opening act for The Sword . In April 2013, Bombus was signed by the German record label Century Media. In August 2013, the second studio album The Poet and the Parrot was released , with which the band entered the Swedish album charts at number 14. At the end of 2013 the band played at the Hamburg Metal Dayz, among others . In early 2014, Bombus played for the first time in North America as the opening act for their compatriots Graveyard . Numerous appearances at European festivals such as the Greenfield Festival , Rock'n'Heim and the Sweden Rock Festival followed .
At the beginning of 2015 the band played another European tour in support of Monster Magnet . In the summer, the band performed again at various festivals such as Rock am Ring , the Download Festival or the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival and recorded their third studio album in between. Bassist Jonas Rydberg left the band in the meantime and was replaced by the former Witchcraft bassist Ola Henriksson. In the fall of 2015, Bombus toured Europe as the opening act for Clutch . The album Repeat Until Death was released on February 26, 2016. The band played in 2016 on Nova Rock , Summer Breeze , Copenhell , FortaRock Festival and the Metal Hammer Awards . A year later the band played at With Full Force and in 2018 at Tuska Open Air .
In 2019 guitarist Simon Solomon joined the band, who previously played with Witchcraft . With producer Daniel Johansson, the band recorded their fourth studio album Vulture Culture , which was released on November 15, 2019 and was mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren.
style
Bombus mix influences from heavy metal, hard rock and punk on their albums . The main influences of the band include groups such as Motörhead , Metallica , The Melvins , Poison Idea and the Dead Boys . In the media, the band is also compared to Turbonegro , Mastodon , Entombed or Venom . Bombus cannot understand the frequent comparisons of Bombus with bands like Turbonegro or Kvelertak .
"We don't orientate ourselves towards other bands, but simply write songs that sound the way we think they should sound - without following a specific pattern."
A special feature of Bombus is that the band has two equal singers. According to Frederik Berglund, this came about by chance and is also related to the similar sounding voice of Mattias Säker.
