history

The area around Brauersdorf was settled from around 900 AD. Around 1300 the place was first listed next to Obernau and Nauholz , as part of the large parish of Netphen. The first documented mention as "Bruwardesdorf" comes from September 23, 1337. In 1643 seven of 15 house owners were Köhler , in Nauholz and Obernau this was similar. The forests around the place were quickly cleared. In 1562 the state issued the “Wood and Forest Regulations”. Forester from Brauersdorf are mentioned in the story.

In 1566 around 100 people lived in the village, in 1688 only around 60 people, in 1815 there were 125 inhabitants. The population did not increase until around 1950. Due to the construction of the dam at the end of the 1960s, the number of residents rose sharply as they moved in from Obernau and Nauholz. This and the relocation of part of Brauersdorf, which had to give way to the dam, meant a complete restructuring of the townscape.

Until the local reorganization , the place belonged to the office of Netphen . On January 1, 1969, Brauersdorf was incorporated as a district into the newly founded municipality of Netphen, which only later became a town. At the end of the 1970s the “Netphener Freizeitpark” was built near Brauersdorf. The St. Elisabeth kindergarten has existed since 1998.

Attractions

The Obernautalsperre

The Obernautalsperre is a popular destination. It has existed since the 1970s and has a 9.6 km long circular trail for hiking, cycling, etc. Water activities cannot be carried out because of the nature of a drinking water reservoir.

Bell tower: After almost 400 people moved from Obernau and Nauholz at the end of the 1960s, the four chapel and school bells, some of which date from the 18th century, also moved. In 1978, a community of interests made up of residents of the three towns was founded. In March 1980, the construction of a bell tower began, in which the bells would be kept. It was inaugurated on November 8th of the same year. In 1990 the “Glockenturmverein Brauersdorf-Obernau-Nauholz eV” emerged from the interest group.

Forest chapel: The small forest chapel has been enthroned on the ridge of the Müller Hain since 2001. The chapel is also intended to remind of the villages of Brauersdorf, Obernau and Nauholz through the window pictures of the former chapel schools. Several times a year Protestant, Catholic, free church or ecumenical devotions take place here.
