The Bracht is a 725.7  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Sauerland in the northern foothills of the Rothaargebirge . It is located near Dornheim in the North Rhine-Westphalian Hochsauerlandkreis .

The Bracht rises in the northern foothills of the Rothaargebirge, which connect to the north of the Hunau ( 818.5  m ). It is located in the north of the urban area of Schmallenberg in the districts Rarbach and Gellinghausen . Its summit is 1.6 km south of Dornheim , 1.6 km south-west of Gellinghausen, 1.9 km north-north-west of Rimberg , 1.5 km north-east of Oberrarbach and 1.9 km south-east of Föckinghausen ; they are all districts of Schmallenberg.

Natural allocation

The Bracht belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Süderbergland (No. 33), in the main unit Rothaargebirge (with Hochsauerland ) (333) and in the subunit Winterberger Hochland (333.5) to the natural area Hunau (333.55). To the north, the landscape drops into the natural area Bödefelder Mulde (333.80), which is part of the Hochsauerländer Schluchtgebirge sub-unit (333.8) .

River and Valme-Henne watershed

The watershed runs across the Bracht between the Valme in the east and the Henne in the west. The water of the rivulets that swell on its eastern flank reaches the Valme through the Brabecke (Gellinghauser Bach) , which flows into the Ruhr in Bestwig . The Doorne (Dornheimer Bach) rises on the north flank of the mountain and is fed by the Gelmecke swelling on the north-east flank ; its water flows into the Henne tributary Kleine Henne . On the south side of the springs Askaysiepen and on the west edge of the Geilenschlahbach , both the Gengenabach (Gengenasiepen) dine. Its water reaches the Henne through the Rarbach , which flows into the Ruhr in Meschede .

Others

The Bracht is mainly forested with spruce and is used for forestry . Its conical shape stands out from its surroundings and makes it an aid to orientation. While the summit is not open to tourists, the slate path of the Sauerland Mountain Association runs on the western slope of the mountain . There are two ski lifts with slopes on the eastern flank .
