Brad Falchuk (born March 1, 1971 ) is an American screenwriter and television director . Falchuk is co-inventor of the series Glee , American Horror Story , Pose and Scream Queens . In addition, he was or is the author and executive producer for the series Nip / Tuck - Beauty Has Its Price and The Politician .

Childhood and youth

Falchuk grew up in Newton, Massachusetts , where he also attended school. To stand out from his classmates, he wore a tie and professed himself a Republican . He suffered from undiagnosed dyslexia . In high school, he played baseball , basketball, and lacrosse . He later attended the American Film Institute . In 1993 he graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges .

Career

Beginnings and Glee

Falchuk's TV career began as a writer for Mutant X , Mission Earth - You Are Among Us and Veritas - The Quest before working on the first season of Nip / Tuck - Beauty Has Its Prize in 2003. Falchuk has a deep friendship with the creator of the series, Ryan Murphy . Falchuk and Murphy developed a pilot episode titled Pretty Handsome , that of a transsexual gynecologist treated and sold him to the station FX , but a series was not produced.

As Nip / Tuk neared season five, Falchuk and Murphy began moving on to a new project. Together with Ian Brennan , who wrote a screenplay on high school choirs, they sold an hour-long comedy episode to Fox through a choir . This gave rise to the Glee series , which premiered in 2009. For the series, Falchuk, Murphy, and Brennan received two Writers Guild of America Award nominations . Due to the success of Glee , Falchuk was awarded a two-year contract with 20th Century Fox Television.

Anthology series

Falchuk co-developed the FX anthology series American Horror Story in 2011 . He worked here again with Ryan Murphy. The first season with Jessica Lange , Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott premiered in 2011 and received mostly positive reviews. In 2012, the series received 17 Primetime Emmy nominations and in 2013 it received 15 nominations. In 2014 she received 17 nominations including one for Falchuk. Falchuk is executive producer on American Crime Story , an offshoot of American Horror Story , due to air in 2015.

In 2014 he worked with Murphy and Brennan to develop Scream Queens , a horror comedy anthology series for Fox. Emma Roberts , Lea Michele , Abigail Breslin , Keke Palmer and Jamie Lee Curtis will star in the first season, which will premiere in the USA in the fall of 2015 and will play on a college campus .

Private life

Falchuk's mother, Nancy Falchuk, has been the Hadassah National President since 2007 . His brother Evan Falchuk was the founder of the United Independent Party and a candidate for Massachusetts gubernatorial election in 2014. His sister Aimee Falchuk works as a therapist.

In 2008, Brad Falchuk was diagnosed with spinal cord problems . After emergency surgery, he made a full recovery. He processed his experiences in the Glee episode "Fear and Blame" (Season 1).

Falchuk was married to TV producer Suzanne Bukinik for over ten years and they have two children. The marriage was divorced in 2013. In August 2014, it was revealed that he was having a relationship with actress Gwyneth Paltrow . The couple got married in September 2018.

Awards and nominations

Falchuk won an AFI award for Glee in 2010 and 2011 . He was nominated five times for the Emmy for Glee and American Horror Story , but has not yet won it.
