geography

source

The Breitenbach rises on the Albtrauf , the northwestern steep drop of the Swabian Alb . Its main spring, known as the Breitenbach spring, is just under 2 km northeast of Gönningen and 750 m (as the crow flies ) south of the county road  6729 on the northern flank of the Pfullinger Berg , a northern branch of the Barm ( 736.5  m above sea  level ), in a clearing on something over 550  m height. The spring, which lies under a mighty slope of rubble , is surrounded by natural stone in an approximately 5 m² niche and designated as a natural monument . The water arises here at the higher layer boundary of the Lower White Jurassic - marl to the well- layered limestone formation . About 20 m below the spring, sintered lime pads grow from the spring water as a result of lime precipitation . A little further south and thus above the main spring is another spring at a height of just over 600  m .

course

Initially, the Breitenbach, which strives mainly northwards, flows through the Selchental and remains in the forest until it  crosses the state road 383 above Reutlingen after about half of its flow distance . After that, the stream, which is now lined with trees and bushes, runs a little to the west of the Reutlingen core city through agricultural fields. Afterwards it crosses under the federal highway 28 and the railway line Plochingen – Tübingen in Reutlingen .

muzzle

The Breitenbach flows in its last few meters to the northwest, in the southern part of the Reutlingen district of Betzingen at the cemetery In der Au in the Neckar tributary Echaz coming from the east-southeast .
