Brett Hauer (born July 11, 1971 in Richfield , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player who was active during his active career for the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League .
Career
Hauer began his active career in 1987 with the Richfield Spartans , a team from Richfield High School , in his native Richfield. After spending two years there, he went to the University of Minnesota Duluth and went on the ice for their ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association .
In the 1989 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fourth round in a total of 71st position by the Vancouver Canucks , but never played for the Canadian franchise . After he had not been signed by any franchise, Hauer signed on February 15, 1994 as a free agent with Las Vegas Thunder in the International Hockey League , for which he went on the ice in 22 games by the end of the season and collected seven points scorer . He then worked for the Swedish club AIK Solna in the 1994/95 season and returned to North America in August 1995 when he was transferred to the Edmonton Oilers in an exchange deal . In the 1995/96 season Hauer made his debut in the National Hockey League and completed a total of 29 NHL games by the end of the season, in which he got four goals and two assists . In the same season he also played 17 games for their farm team , the Cape Breton Oilers , in the American Hockey League and could be credited eight points.
After Hauer had spent the following season exclusively with the Chicago Wolves , his contract with the Edmonton Oilers was not extended. Then the defensive player signed on September 15, 1997 with the Manitoba Moose and was almost exclusively with the Moose in the following four seasons. On July 8, 2001, Hauer joined the Los Angeles Kings , again as a free agent . However, the defender did not play a game for the Kings in the NHL and was sent to their farm team, the Manchester Monarchs , in the AHL. After 29 games for the Monarchs, with a yield of 13 points, there was an exchange between the Los Angeles Kings and the Nashville Predators on December 19, 2001 . As a result, Hauer was given to Nashville and Rich Brennan was transferred to the Kings in return .
After three NHL games for the Predators in the 2001/02 season , the defensive player went to the end of the season for the Milwaukee Admirals in the AHL and posted a total of 27 points in 48 games. After his contract with the Predators was not renewed, he went to Switzerland and signed on July 11, 2002 as a free agent at HC Servette Genève . At the Geneva club, Hauer was one of the permanent staff in the following two years and qualified with the team twice for the play-offs. The team was eliminated from the tournament in the quarter-finals or semi-finals against SC Bern . For the 2004/05 season he left the club and joined the EV Zug . Hauer played a total of 30 games for EV Zug in the course of the season and scored 18 points scorer. In his only appearance during the play-offs, the defender immediately scored a goal, and the team was eliminated from the tournament in the semi-finals against the ZSC Lions .
The following season he went on the ice for HC Davos and scored a total of 47 points in 56 NLA games. He took part in the Spengler Cup several times with HC Davos and won it in 2004 and 2006 . After Hauer had spent the 2006/07 season with the Russian Lokomotiv Yaroslavl club , the American returned to Switzerland for the following season.
He signed, again as a free agent, with EHC Basel and was one of the regular players in Basel. Although he had played 55 games and scored 29 points, the EHC Basel rose to the National League B after the lost play-outs against EHC Biel . The defensive player then ended his active career.
International
Hauer took part in the World Championships in 1993 , 1995 , 2003 , 2004 and 2005 with Team USA . His greatest success was winning the bronze medal at the 2004 World Cup.
He also contested the 1994 Winter Olympics with Team USA and finished eighth with the team.
