Brett vor'm Kopp is a German film by the directors Monica Nancy Wick and Ali Eckert from 2012 and produced by B-Side Films GmbH. The documentary is a summary of Titus Dittmann's life's work , in which film sequences from his life are combined with interviews.

The central theme of the film is an interview with Titus Dittmann. This is shown alternately with private recordings from Titus Dittmann's life, which Titus comments on. Not only does Titus Dittmann have a say, but also many international athletes are interviewed, including the eleven-time skateboarding world champion Tony Hawk , the five-time skateboarding world champion Andy Macdonald and the pro-skater and founder of "H-Street & Osiris" Tony Magnusson . In addition, excerpts from Dittmann's public television appearances are integrated into the documentation.

Titus Dittmann is shown in various extreme sports , but he nevertheless emphasizes several times that he is a “scared shit” who always takes a “controlled risk” and moves exclusively “in a controlled manner at the limit” .

content

Titus Dittmann saw the first skateboarder at Lake Aasee in Münster . That moment changed his life. Although he only learned French as a foreign language when attending school in the Rhineland, but not English, he made his way to the USA to buy skateboards and skate accessories and sell them at a purchase price in Münster. At that time, skateboarders were still very rare in public spaces. As soon as Titus set up the self-built halfpipe , which caused a loud background noise when driving on, residents called the police who stopped skateboarding. He then founded the “Titus Show Team”, the first skateboard team in Europe, with which he was invited to the openings of car dealerships or company celebrations so that he could train undisturbed during his performances.

Back then, the skateboarding and roller skating scenes were still closely linked. For example, skateboarders and roller skaters competed together in the first skate competitions. Since the German Roller Sports Association tried to strongly regulate the competitions, Titus called the Titus Cup into being so that the skate scene could develop beyond restrictive rules. Titus founded the Münster Monster Magazin , the first skate magazine in Germany, which later appeared nationwide, which is why the name was changed to Monster Magazin . In 1982 he organized his first halfpipe contest, the Münster Monster Mastership, in the parking lot of the Münster Ostbad . In its second year this competition was already an international sporting event with participants from the United Kingdom . In the following year, Americans took part in the competition. This resulted in one of the world's most important skateboarding tournaments, which took place in the Münsterland Hall from 1988, in the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund from 1999 and became the official Skateboard World Championship in 1989. This made the Monster Mastership the most important skateboard competition in the world for 25 years.

In addition to skateboarding, Titus Dittmann discovered another hobby during his studies, with which he earned money. He converted cars of the Citroën 2CV model and competed with them in "duck races". Although he is not a carnivalist, he built several carnival floats on request for the Carnival in Münster, which could be seen on the Prinzipalmarkt . He also drove the Sahara with a Citroën 2CV. He later bought a 1965 Ford Mustang to convert it for racing. Titus has been racing since the mid-1990s, and his son Julius discovered this hobby for himself at the end of the 1990s. They both competed in 24-hour races together .

Furthermore, Titus practiced hang gliding and snowboarding . In 1986 he and a friend took part in the Snowboard World Championship in Colorado while on vacation , for which each nation was allowed to provide two riders.

Over the years, Titus Dittmann has appeared as a guest on various television programs. In 1982 he presented skateboarding to Alfred Biolek in the ZDF sports studio . He was also invited by Jürgen von der Lippe , made a guest appearance with Günther Jauch in the current sports studio , was a total guest with Stefan Raab on TV and visited Anke Engelke with Claudia Roth at Anke Late Night . Accompanied by Westdeutscher Rundfunk , Titus set off on an expedition to the summit of Kilimanjaro , where he performed the highest skateboard trick in the world to date in the world's only second live broadcast from a height of over 5,000 meters. However, Titus not only appeared as a guest in foreign productions, but also produced Titus TV on MTV .

In 2009, Titus founded the Titus Dittmann Foundation , which uses Skate-aid to support national and international humanitarian projects for children and young people. The film ends with pictures from the international journal showing the establishment of a skate park in Afghanistan by Skate-aid .

background

Interview with Titus Dittmann immediately before the premiere of the film in the Cineplex Münster

Monica Nancy Wick met Titus Dittmann only a few years before the filming and was impressed by his résumé, so that she came up with the idea to film his life. A statement by Titus Dittmann that he made about himself was chosen as the film title, Brett vor'm Kopp .

Production of the film began in 2010. The film was completed in 2010, but Titus Dittmann was unsure about the release of the film, which is why the film was only shown in 2012. Accordingly, after the end credits of the film, which reflect the status of 2010, images from the international journal can be seen that report on a project carried out by the skate-aid foundation to set up a skate park in Afghanistan .

The film celebrated its premiere on March 16, 2012 in the German Sports and Olympic Museum in Cologne . On June 20, 2012, it was shown in the cinema for the first time in the Cineplex Münster by the Westphalian Wilhelms University in the presence of Titus Dittmann. This demonstration took place with free admission as a benefit event for the benefit of Titus Dittmann's skate-aid foundation .

Soundtrack

The soundtrack was written by the Berlin band The Pushbars , which consist of the Beatsteaks , with director Ali Eckert himself at the microphone for the recordings.

reception

The film is "a rapid film biography with interviews, historical film sequences and current material," judged Jürgen Grimmelt from the Westfälische Nachrichten . He was "cut quickly and with a lot of music". The editors of stadus.de characterized it as "truthful, authentic and truthful".
