Cineplex is an association of independent, medium-sized cinema companies founded in 1996 . The current headquarters of Cineplex Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG is in Wuppertal . Until 2008, the headquarters were located in Münster ( Westphalia ), where the group has been operating its first cinema with nine halls and a total of 2707 seats since November 15, 2000 . The parent company represents the group externally and is responsible for all joint activities.
history
The Cineplex group was founded in 1996. In 1997, the first cinema of the Cineplex group was opened in Bruchsal . It was followed by the opening of the cinema in Mannheim in the same year .
Since the founding of the Cineplex Group, there has been a steady increase in visitors.

The owners of the individual Cineplex cinemas organize the local film program themselves and set the entrance fees and local marketing measures independently, while national activities are controlled centrally from the company's headquarters in Wuppertal.
The Cineplex Münster showed since the end of 2007 as the first German cinema Europe movies on a digital projector for the 4K standard , ie up to 4096 pixels per line. For this purpose, Sony provided a new projector for almost a year, which was tested in Münster in trial operation under real conditions. According to the staff, however, apart from the press screening and the 4K promotional trailer, there was no film material that was originally available in 4K quality.
In Penzing near Landsberg am Lech in Upper Bavaria, Germany's first laser projector was put into regular operation in October 2014 in the local Cineplex in Hall 2.
With 175 digital and 3D screens, the Cineplex Group was the market leader in this segment in September 2011, as in the previous year. At the end of 2012, nationwide digitization was completed. With The Hobbit , a film was shown for the first time in 2012 with 48 instead of 24 frames per second.
Locations
In August 2017, the Cineplex group was represented in 65 German cities at 90 locations, including 81 3D locations, with a total of 518 screens and over 91,000 seats. At this point in time there were six cinemas in Berlin, three cinemas each in Marburg, Passau and Wiesbaden. The cities of Aachen, Bergisch Gladbach, Frankfurt, Goslar, Gotha, Lippstadt, Lörrach, Mannheim, Münster, Pforzheim and Ulm each had two Cineplex cinemas. The Cineplex Group is represented with a cinema at all other locations. The Cineplex Neufahrn has most of the cinema halls with 16 screens. Neu-Ulm and Penzing have the second largest number of screens with eleven screens each, followed by Erding, Mannheim and Memmingen with ten screens each. The largest cinemas in the Cineplex Group can be found in Dettelbach, Münster, Mannheim, Berlin and Neu-Ulm, each with over 2,500 seats. The smallest cinema in the group is the Scharfrichter-Kino in Passau , which exclusively presents pure film art and is regularly awarded with cinema program awards.
