Brian Robert Lynch (born June 12, 1978 in Point Pleasant , New Jersey ) is an American - Belgian basketball coach and former player. The holder of the Italian citizenship was active as a professional in Europe after his studies in his home country and played in Belgium from 2004 after many, often very short engagements in various countries . In 2007 he married the Belgian tennis player Kim Clijsters and ended his own career after her return to the tennis court in 2009. In 2013 he began a career as a coach and in 2014 took over as head coach of first division newcomer Limburg United in the Belgian Ethias League .
Career
Lynch studied at Villanova University in Pennsylvania , where he worked for the Wildcats University Team in NCAA Division I, where he played with the later NBA and BBL professional John Celestand , among others . After completing his studies in 2000, he began a professional career in Europe, initially only being active for less than one season in various countries. In the seasons 2002/03 and 2003/04 he was active at the end of the season for the Gießen 46ers. He was able to help ensure that the club, which has belonged to the highest German league since it was founded, could keep the class.
In 2004 his former coach Chris Finch from Giessen brought him to the Belgian league at Euphony BBC in Bree . In 2005 they won the double straight away . Afterwards it was not possible to repeat these successes despite new teammates like the later two-time BBL MVP Julius Jenkins . However, Lynch met Kim Clijsters, whom he eventually married in 2007. After the birth of their daughter Jada Ellie Lynch on February 27, 2008, Clijsters continued her career in 2009. Lynch, who played in Antwerp since 2008 , then ended his own career.
In the 2013/14 season, Lynch was assistant coach at his former club Antwerp Giants, before he was appointed coach one season later at the new league Limburg United based in Hasselt , who succeeded the Bree BBC in the province of Limburg .
