Brigitte Burchardt (born Brigitte Hofmann ; born October 17, 1954 in Weißenfels ) is a German chess player . In 1975 she was named International Women's Champion by FIDE .

Brigitte Hofmann began her chess career at SC Chemie Halle , took part in a GDR women's championship for the first time in Freiberg at the age of 15 in 1970 and immediately came third. Christina Hölzlein won the championship.

Individual championships

She won the GDR women's chess championships in 1975 in Stralsund , 1978 in Torgelow and 1979 in Suhl . She came second five times: 1972 in Görlitz behind Gabriele Just , 1976 in Gröditz behind Petra Feustel , 1980 in Plauen behind Ulricke Seidemann , 1982 in Salzwedel behind Iris Bröder and 1990 in Bad Blankenburg behind Gundula Nehse . She also played at the Tbilisi interzonal tournament in 1976 .

She became lightning champion of the GDR in 1970, 1979 and 1981 in Halle (Saale) .

Team championships

Brigitte Burchardt played the Chess Olympiad in Novi Sad in 1990 on the first board of the GDR women and the 1992 Chess Olympiad in Manila on the second board for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Since 1970 she has won the GDR lightning team championship several times with the clubs BSG Buna Halle, BSG Buna Halle-Neustadt and BSG AdW Berlin. With Buna Halle-Neustadt she won the GDR team championship in 1975 and 1978 .

After German reunification, Burchardt first played for SSV Rotation Berlin, and since 2004 she has been playing for Rotation Pankow, which was formed that year as a spin-off from SSV Rotation Berlin. She played a total of 16 seasons in the 1st national women's chess league (1991/92 to 1996/97, 1998/99, 1999/2000, 2001/02 to 2006/07, 2008/09 and 2011/12), the greatest success Winner of the runner-up in the 1991/92 season .

Between 1980 and 1982 she changed her name from Brigitte Hofmann to Brigitte Burchardt.
She is the mother of the volleyball player Regina Mapeli Burchardt .
From January 1976 to January 1989, Burchardt led the Elo ranking of active players in the GDR.

Honors

On February 5, 1981 Brigitte Burchardt was awarded the honorary title of Master of Sports on behalf of the GDR Council of Ministers .
