British Jazz Awards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The British Jazz Awards are a British jazz prize awarded annually since 1987, also known as the Jazz Oscars in Great Britain . Prizes will be given for the individual instruments, albums, big bands, small groups, up-and-coming talent (rising star), media and services to British jazz. The prize was awarded in Birmingham until 1995 , then with the change of sponsor until 2004 in London (where the award ceremony in the BAFTA building always met with great media interest), and later also in various locations in Great Britain. Voting is made with ballot papers distributed publicly in record stores, jazz festivals, jazz clubs and via the media (for example, 20,000 were distributed in 2005, when the prize was awarded again in Birmingham), and sometimes also with online voting later.

The awards are recently organized by Big Bear Music (for example 2007, 2010) and sponsored by Jazz Rag Magazine and UK Jazz Radio (2011).
