Brzeziny (German Groß Briesen ) is a village in the rural municipality of Skoroszyce in Poland . It is located in the powiat Nyski (Neisse district) in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location

The street village of Brzeziny is located in the southwest of the historical region of Upper Silesia . The place is about three kilometers east of the municipality Skoroszyce , about 18 kilometers northeast of the district town Nysa and about 45 kilometers southwest of the voivodeship capital Opole .

Brzeziny lies in the Nizina Śląska ( Silesian Plain ) within the Równina Grodkowska ( Grottkau Plain ). Through the village flows Młynówka ( mill race ), a left tributary of the Glatzer Neisse .

history

In the work Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis from the years 1295-1305, the place is mentioned for the first time as Brysyn magnum . In 1369 it was mentioned as Bresin . In 1545 a church was built in the village.

After the First Silesian War in 1742, Groß Briesen and most of Silesia fell to Prussia .

After the reorganization of the province of Silesia , the rural community of Groß Briesen belonged to the district of Grottkau in the administrative district of Opole from 1816 . In 1841 a new school house was built in the village. In 1845 there was a Catholic parish church, a Catholic school, a distillery and 101 other houses in the village. In the same year, 510 people lived in Groß Briesen, all of them Catholic. In 1855 575 people lived in Groß Briesen. In 1865 there were 26 farmers, four semi-farmers, 27 gardeners and 15 cottagers in the village . The two-class Catholic school was attended by 116 students in the same year. In 1874 the Friedewald district was founded, which consisted of the rural communities Friedewalde and Groß Briesen and the Friedewalde manor district. In 1885 Groß Briesen had 571 inhabitants.

In 1933 there were 463 people in Groß Briesen and 476 in 1939. Until the end of the war in 1945, the place belonged to the district of Grottkau .

As a result of the Second World War, Groß Briesen fell under Polish administration in 1945, like most of Silesia . It was subsequently renamed Brzeziny and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. The German population was largely expelled . In 1950 it was incorporated into the Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Nyski . In 2011, 351 people lived in the village.

Attractions

  • The Roman Catholic Church of St. Martin (Polish Kościół św. Marcina ) was built in 1545. The building has been a listed building since 1966.
