Bumer ( Russian Бумер ) is the debut film by Russian director Pyotr Buslow from 2003 . The budget of the film was 700,000 US dollars . He has grossed $ 1.6 million so far.

The film takes place in November and December 1999 . After the collapse of the Soviet Union , a wave of crime and lawlessness overwhelmed the country in the 1990s. The four friends Dimon, Ramon, Kostja and Lyocha form a small gang in Moscow. At the beginning of the film, you steal a BMW 750iL with a Latvian registration number . While Petya and Lyocha give the BMW a new license plate, Kostja talks to his girlfriend Anastasia about her plan to turn her back on Russia forever and start a new life in France . Kostya shows little interest and does not see a better life in France than in Russia. Their conversation is interrupted by a call from Dimon, who tells Kostja on the phone that he is in big trouble. Dimon's Mercedes was stolen. The four friends make their way to the crooks who stole Dimon's car and find them in a trendy restaurant. A chase and shooting ensues after Lyocha presents his pistol to the thieves. After all the stress, the four friends want to celebrate their new BMW and decide to spend a short vacation in a dacha . They leave Moscow, but are stopped by police officers at the city limits and have to buy their way out. On the way to their dacha, they are not only stopped by police officers, but also by several mafia groups and gangs who receive protection money from e.g. B. gas stations or rest stops. When the four friends stop briefly in a parking lot, Dimon hears on the radio of another parked vehicle through a secret message from an acquaintance that all of Moscow is looking for the four friends and that they shouldn't come home. The four friends go to a small restaurant on the autobahn, where Kostja is on the phone with a friend from Moscow, who learns that a personality, possibly an FSB agent or a highly respected policeman, was shot in the shooting for Dimon's Mercedes . He worked undercover and was not really a criminal. Dimon, Ramon, Kostja and Lyocha are wanted by the police for murder in Moscow. As the four young men sit at the dining table and eat borscht , three truck drivers come to the snack bar. Lyocha immediately lets out his bad mood on the old men, but comes up with the idea of demanding protection money from the ignorant : the four want to accompany their transport to their destination because they are in need of money. The men refuse. After Lyocha's emergency idea, two other conspicuous men the same age as the four friends come up and ask the same truck driver to park his car differently, as he is allegedly blocking the exit. Petya follows the further course of things at the window and notices a bunch of men who surround the truck driver. After the other truck driver also noticed this, he agreed to Ljocha's offer . The four friends clear up the conflict with the (clearly recognizable) bandit group and accompany the truck drivers to a collection point for trucks and goods transport. One of the truck drivers pays for his protection, but the other disappears and brings in his driver friends because he did not want to pay his part of the appointment. A fight ensues in which Dimon is seriously injured when he gets a screwdriver rammed into his stomach. But after the rest of the friends have fought their way through the pack, they drive away from the gathering place, but with flat tires. Dimon is bleeding profusely and appears to pass out. Petya, Kostja and Lyocha drive on, perplexed, until they discovered an ambulance on the way, which is only driven by a market vendor and cannot offer them any medical help. He gives advice to friends about a faith healer not far from their current location. They decide to seek out this mysterious woman, but get stuck in the snowy landscape and have to continue on foot, carrying their injured friend through the night. At dawn they find the faith healer's house in a small village. This takes care of Dimon while the others make the most of their stay in the village. While Ramon is repairing the tires of the BMW, he meets a young, pretty blonde and spends the night with her. He promises her seriously that he will come back and take her to Moscow with him. After Dimon has been nursed back to health by the faith healer, the four friends do not know where to go and look for a friend who they cannot find and learn that he is in trouble himself. In a hotel room, the four friends unsuccessfully consider a new plan. While Dimon continues to relax in the hotel room and Kostja tries to reach Anastasia, Lyocha and Petya meet two other women in a small town in Bashkortostan and celebrate with them. Ramon shows an annoyed impression. When they come into the hotel room from their long night, Lyocha tells that the two women work for a computer company and that they end the week cashing in. Kostja, Lyocha and Petya decide to rob this company. On the same evening, Dimon desperately points out his health, but still wants to participate in the attack. He also says that the crooks in Moscow only stole his car because he provoked it with wild driving maneuvers. Dimon is desperate because his immature behavior has put the four friends in a difficult situation.

Towards the end the four friends are sitting in their stolen BMW. They load their pistols and get out of the car. Dimon drives the car a little further away from the company and waits while the friends go to the company. He hears shots and screams and sees Lyocha coming out of the building, shot. When a police car suddenly appears and at the same moment Kostja and Petja leave the building, Lyocha tries to save his two friends and shoots several police officers until he is shot himself. A policeman calls for reinforcements. Kostja carries Ramon on his shoulders because he may have been shot at the company. However, Ramon also sacrifices himself to save Kostja's life and turns his back to a special unit that has reached the building and is aiming the submachine gun at Kostja. Meanwhile, Dimon tries to drive to his friend who is still alive, but the stolen BMW does not start. He hesitates to get out, but then decides to drive away and leaves Kostja kneeling on the floor with his hands up. There are more shots and a hint of the film Bumer 2. Dimon leaves the BMW in a forest and takes the bus away.

The film Bumer not only shows the stories of the four friends, but also the later résumés of other supporting characters:

  • the gas station attendant boy they met before the long journey. Lyocha gives him a baseball bat. The film shows in a minute how quickly the boy becomes a criminal and what the future will bring.
  • the policeman who stops her in the middle of a country road. Kostja robbed his glove compartment after he only checked Petya, Lyocha and Dimon. But they buy themselves free of the stolen money after the police discover drugs in the stolen BMW. In the film he appears as a man of no respect who has a drinking problem.
  • Katja, the blonde and the only young woman in the village. Ramon spends one night with her. The faith healer mentions in the film that she has a difficult life after her mother is seriously ill. The film shows in a minute that she will have a daughter from Ramon, but that she will never get to know her father. We also learn that the blonde gets a marriage proposal from a neighbor, who is also briefly mentioned in the film.
