- Brussels / Belgium : With the signature of Foreign Minister David Andrews , Ireland is accepted into the Partnership for Peace ( German partnership for peace ) between the military alliance NATO and predominantly non-aligned countries.
Thursday December 2, 1999
- Klettwitz / Germany : The association “ Lausitz Ring e. V. "held the topping-out ceremony for the motor sports - track Euro Speedway Lausitz.
- Wilhelmsburg / Austria : Ten people die in a severe gas explosion and the resulting collapse of a three-story building.
Friday 3rd December 1999
- Bas du Fort / Guadeloupe : The American Tori Murden arrives in her rowing boat after 81 days and 4,767 km between Los Gigantes in the Canary Islands and Bas du Fort in the Lesser Antilles . She is the first woman to cross the Atlantic alone in a rowboat.
- Mars : The Mars Polar Lander no longer sends radio signals to the space agency NASA . The reason for the loss after about eleven months of flight time is probably due to the premature shutdown of the brake engines in preparation for the Mars landing.

- Aarau / Switzerland : The political party List of Independents decides to dissolve itself at national level. For the longest time since the 1935 election under the name of “Landesring der Independen”, it was represented in the National Council with at least one mandate holder .
- Brussels / Belgium : Prince Philippe , the first-born son of the King of the Belgians Albert II , and Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz celebrate their wedding .
- Denmark , Northern Germany , Southern Sweden : The hurricane Anatol dissolves. In the two days before, it caused considerable damage in Denmark and northern Germany. In Denmark it is considered the worst hurricane of the 20th century.
- Innsbruck / Austria : At Bergisel come at the seventh Freestyle - Snowboard Festival " Air & Style ", one of the largest in Europe, five people in a crowd of people killed.
- Russia : Viktor Kazantsev , Colonel General in Dagestan and negotiator in Chechnya, is honored as Hero of the Russian Federation .

- Maputo / Mozambique : The presidential election , which began on December 3, ends with a victory for Joaquim Chissano from the ruling Frente da Libertação de Moçambique party .

- Berlin / Germany : Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder is confirmed as party chairman at the SPD's federal party conference with 86.3% of the vote.
- Lausanne / Switzerland : With the Kodak decision , the Federal Supreme Court regulates the admissibility of parallel imports of patented products. Against the will of the patent holder, parallel imports are excluded in the future, the content owner unless antitrust compliant behavior.
- Rio de Janeiro / Brazil : The Austrian base jumper Felix Baumgartner jumps off the right arm of the Christ statue on Corcovado with a parachute at 7:00 a.m. local time .

- Berlin / Germany : The members of the Berlin House of Representatives elect Eberhard Diepgen ( CDU ) as governing mayor for the third time in a row . The grand coalition concluded in 1991 is being continued.
Friday December 10, 1999
- Helsinki / Finland : The European Council decided that the 15 member states of the European Union (EU) would start talks with Bulgaria , Latvia , Lithuania , Malta , Romania and Slovakia on their accession to the EU in 2000 . This increases the number of candidates to twelve. Negotiations have already started with Estonia , Poland , Slovenia , the Czech Republic , Hungary and Cyprus since the last enlargement in 1995 .
- Tirana / Albania : The Constitutional Court declares the death penalty unconstitutional.

- Helsinki / Finland : In the process of accession to the European Union, the European Council gives the Republic of Turkey the status of “ country willing to join ”. For diplomats, this wording is a polite way of saying that Turkey will not be promoted to membership in the foreseeable future . The presidency of the Council meeting concluded that the term was intended to “stimulate reforms” in Turkey.

- Cologne / Germany : The Cologne newspaper war begins with the free distribution of the daily newspaper 20 Minuten Cologne in the city area.
- N'Djamena / Chad : Nagoum Yamassoum replaces Nassour Guelendouksia Ouaido as Prime Minister.
