Cátia Isabel da Silva Azevedo (born March 9, 1994 in Oliveira de Azeméis ) is a Portuguese athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run.

Athletic career

For the first time at an international championship, Cátia Azevedo competed at the Junior European Championships 2013 in Rieti , where she came in fifth. In 2014 she qualified for the European Championships in Zurich , where she was eliminated in the individual competition and with the Portuguese 4 x 400 meter relay in the preliminary round. In 2015 she took part in the U23 European Championships in Tallinn and was eliminated there in the preliminary stages. In 2016 she reached the semifinals of the European Championships in Amsterdam over 400 meters and was eliminated from the relay in the preliminary round. She also took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2017 she qualified for the World Championships in London , but also dropped out there in the preliminary stages . A few weeks later, she took part in the World Student Games in Taipei , where she finished fifth.

In 2018 she qualified for the Indoor World Championships in Birmingham , where she was eliminated in the first round in the individual competition with 54.17 seconds and the relay with 3: 35.43 minutes. At the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona , she finished fifth over 400 meters in 52.63 seconds and also with the Portuguese relay in 3: 34.21 minutes. In August she reached the European Championships in Berlin , up to the semi-finals, in which she was eliminated with 52.23 s. Even with the season she could not qualify for the final in 3: 33.35 min. Then she won the Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo in 52.26 s in the individual competition and in 3: 36.49 min with the relay. At the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 2019 , the end followed in 53.43 s. At the European Games in Minsk she finished fourth in the mixed relay in 3: 19.63 minutes and at the Summer Universiade in Naples she was fifth in 52.07 seconds. Before that, she improved her own national record in the semifinals by a hundredth of a second to 51.62 s and thus qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated with 52.79 s in the lead .

From 2016 to 2019 Azevedo was Portuguese champion in the 400-meter run outdoors and in 2015, 2017 and 2019 also indoors. She also secured the title in the 200 meters in the hall in 2015 and in the 800 meter run in 2018 and 2019 .
