The COSAFA Cup in 2017 , the soccer championship of Southern Africa , took place from June 25 to July 9, 2017 in the North West in South Africa instead. The tournament was organized by the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA). South Africa hosted the regional championship for the fifth time. Zimbabwe's selection won the tournament for the 5th time. The top scorer was Zimbabwean Ovidy Karuru with six goals.
Participant and mode
All 14 full members of COSAFA were eligible to play. The Comorian national football team had again decided not to participate. The Tanzanian soccer team is participating as a visiting team for the third time.
In contrast to previous years, the top five teams in the FIFA world rankings and the hosts did not automatically qualify for the quarter-finals. This year the previous year's results of the COSAFA Cup 2016 were used.
Venues
The tournament took place in Moruleng and Phokeng each in a stadium.
