The tenth edition of the COSAFA Cup , officially the COSAFA Castle Cup 2006 , took place from August 19 to October 21, 2006 in Lusaka and Harare . Four teams from South Africa played for the title of South African champion. Zambia won its third title. The preliminary round took place from April 26th to July 23rd in Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia.
The defending champion Zimbabwe was automatically qualified for the final round of the tournament. The remaining 12 participants played in three groups, the winners of which qualified for the finals in Zimbabwe. The group ranks were decided by holding a semi-final, the winners of which played a group final and the losers a game for third place.

The Group A games took place on April 26th and 30th, 2006 in Maseru , Lesotho. Host Lesotho lost in the final against favorites Angola.
