The COSAFA Senior Challenge 2010 was to take place from November 13th to 27th, 2010 in Angola . However, the Angolan government could not give any guarantees for the hosting of the tournament in the short term, so that on October 19th the cancellation by the COSAFA took place.

The 14th edition of the tournament was expected to take place in Mozambique in January 2011 , but was completely canceled on October 17, 2010.

Eight teams from South Africa should have played for the title of " Southern African Champion ".

Preliminary round / qualification

The eight worst COSAFA member associations in the FIFA world rankings in September 2010 would have had to compete in a qualification in two groups of four teams each. The winners of the group matches would have qualified for the final round (quarter-finals) and would have completed the field of eight teams.

The qualification or preliminary round would have been held in round- robin mode.

Finals

The final round would have been played in a knockout system .

Attendees

Six participating countries, which had the highest placements in the FIFA world rankings in September 2010, were automatically qualified for the final round (quarter-finals).
