The COSAFA Cup 2016 , the soccer championship of southern Africa , took place for the first time in Namibia from June 11th to 25th, 2016 . The tournament was organized by the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) and funded by the Namibian government with eight million Namibian dollars . The winner was South Africa for the fourth time.

Participant and mode

All 14 full members of COSAFA were eligible to play. The Comoros waived and were replaced by the national soccer team of the Democratic Republic of the Congo , as a visiting team.

The five best teams according to the FIFA world rankings as well as hosts Namibia were automatically qualified for the quarter-finals. The group draw took place on April 25th in Windhoek.
