Caenlio ( Cainliu , Kan Liu ) is an East Timorese village in Suco Caenlio ( Iliomar administrative office , Lautém municipality ).

The place

The village of Caenlio is located in the south-east of Sucos on a hill, at an altitude of 196  m . The houses are scattered along a cobbled street, surrounded by large coconut trees. The road connects the municipality capital Lospalos with the place Iliomar . The villages of Maluhira ( Maloira ) and Caidavalarin ( Caidovalarin , Caidovalaun ) also belong to its settlement center . While the road follows the rest of the entire length of the border between Caenlio and Suco Fuat , the border frames the settlement center in the east, so that it lies entirely in the area of ​​Suco Caenlio. Caenlio has a primary school.

Caenlio has 1185 inhabitants (2015), of which 595 are men and 590 women. The population density is 14.8 inhabitants / km². There are 235 households in the Suco. Over 98% of the population name Makalero as their mother tongue. Minorities speak Makasae , Sa'ane or Tetum Prasa .

Before the territorial reform in 2015, Caenlio had an area of ​​71.50 km². Now it is 80.04 km². The Suco is located in the northwest of the administrative office of Iliomar. In the south it borders on the Suco Tirilolo , in the east on Fuat, in the north on the Suco Baricafa (administrative office Luro ) and in the west the rivers Tunir and Irebere form the border with the administrative office Baguia (municipality of Baucau ) with its sucos Uacala and Larisula and the Uatucarbau administrative office (municipality of Viqueque ) with its Suco Bahatata . In the north, the river Afalita rises in Suco , which later forms the Irebere with the Tunir. Further south, the Sailuturo joins the Irebere from Caenlio . Along its course, the Irebere repeatedly forms small lakes and river islands.

In addition to the settlement center Caenlio, the places Butinafa , Tatalalarin , Titiravein ( Titiravem ) and Liufalun ( German  Holy Lake ) are located in the southeast . Further north on the road to Lospalos are the places Lurato and Hamahun and in the southwest the place Larimi ( Larimin ). There are medical aid posts in Tatalalarin and Caenlio. In addition to the one in Caenlio, there are elementary schools in Hamahun and near Larimi.

The five Aldeias Caidavalarin , Larimi , Liufalun , Maluhira and Titiravein are located in Caenlio .

In contrast to the higher-lying neighboring Suco Fuat, Caenlio is warm in the rainy season with a high level of humidity.
