Carey Villegas

Carey Grant Villegas is a VFX supervisor , who at Digital Domain works and 2011 for Alice in Wonderland for the Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects was nominated.

Life

Villegas attended Joliet Central High School and graduated from the University of St. Francis in Joliet , Illinois . After graduating in 1993, he worked for Editel for two and a half years . He started as an intern in accounting and worked his way up to special effects artist . During this time he worked on commercials for Kellogg's , Reebok , Subway and the spot of McDonald's for the Super Bowl XXIX . He moved to Los Angeles in 1995 and started working at Digital Domain . During this time he worked on films such as T2 3-D: Battle Across Time , The Fifth Element , Titanic and Fight Club . He also directed music video production for Michael Jackson , Celine Dion and the Rolling Stones .

In 1999 he moved to Sony Pictures Imageworks , where he was VFX Supervisor for films such as I Spy , In Love with a Witch , I Am Legend and Alice in Wonderland . For Alice in Wonderland , he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects in 2011 together with Ken Ralston , David Schaub and Sean Phillips .

In 2011 he switched back to Digital Domain , where he is currently working on an adaptation of Sleeping Beauty entitled Maleficent . He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , the Visual Effects Society , the International Animated Film Society, and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers .
