Carl Christoph von Owstien

Carl Christoph von Owstien (also: Owstin ) (born July 1, 1720 in Klein Bünzow ; † 1791 or later in Stargard ) was a Prussian colonel and chief of the 10th Hussar Regiment .

His parents were the Swedish captain Cuno Wilhelm von Owstin (* 1668; † February 2, 1743) and his wife Helena Sophie von Steding († January 12, 1746) daughter of Michel von Steding auf Lentschow and Sophie Eleonore von Maltzan from the house Grubenhagen in Mecklenburg. His father inherited the Klein Bünzow estate from an uncle.

Life

Owstien entered Prussian service in 1740 , joined the Münchow infantry regiment and took part in the First Silesian War . In February 1742 he became adjutant to Field Marshal Kurt Christoph von Schwerin . In the same year he was transferred to the "Hoditz" hussar regiment as a prime lieutenant . Owstien fought at Hohenfriedberg and Kesselsdorf . He was shot in the shoulder and in the arm near Prague.

In 1747 he was staff assistant master and in 1750 Rittmeister and squadron chief . In 1754 he received the order Pour le Mérite for his achievements . In the Seven Years' War he was able to escape with five squadrons at the surrender of Gabel in 1757 , while four battalions were taken prisoner. In the same year he became major and in 1758 regimental commander . After the Prussian defeat at Landeshut , he was able to escape to Neumark with the rest of the corps. In 1760 he fought in the relief of Kolberg and at Reichenbach he commanded an outpost with 400 cuirassiers and 300 hussars. In 1764 he was transferred to the "Lossow" hussar regiment as commander , the chief of which was the important Daniel Friedrich von Lossow . In 1772 he was promoted to colonel and in 1773 appointed chief of Hussar Regiment No. 10.

In 1780 Owstien received his retirement at his own request with a pension of 600 thalers . He first retired to his Karbow estate, sold it in 1791 and moved to his daughter in Stargard, where he died.

family

Owstien married Dorothea Louise von Averdiek († 1766) from the Nisdorf family in 1763 . The marriage had two children:

  • Eleonore Caroline Dorothea (* 1758) ⚭ 1783 Karl von Calbo (f) (* 1758), captain
  • Friedrich Karl (1764–1764)

In 1778 he married Sophia von Steding, the daughter of the Swedish major Christoph Adam von Steding. But the couple divorced again. She married the future Colonel Ferdinand Georg Gottlob von Tümpling.
