Carlo Curis
Carlo Curis (born November 2, 1923 in La Maddalena , Olbia-Tempio province , Italy ; † September 29, 2014 in Rome - Parioli ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .
Life
Carlo Curis received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Tempio-Ampurias on July 13, 1947 by Bishop Albino Morera . After studying canon law in Rome, Curis entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and graduated from the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy in 1954 . In 1956 he became assistant secretary in the section for relations with the states of the Vatican State Secretariat .
Carlo Curis 1957 Nuntiaturrat in the Apostolic Nunciature in Uruguay . Pope Pius XII awarded him on August 16, 1957 the papal honorary title of redundant secret chamberlain of His Holiness . In 1963 Curis Uditore was appointed to the Apostolic Nunciature in India and in 1966 he was appointed Nunciature Councilor in the same Apostolic Nunciature. Carlo Curis joined the Apostolic Nunciature in the United States as Uditore in 1967 . Pope Paul VI awarded him the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) in 1968 . In 1969 Curis became a councilor in the Apostolic Nunciature in Italy . Pope Paul VI awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness on January 21, 1970 .
On July 14, 1971, Pope Paul VI appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Medeli and ordered him to apostolic delegate in Sri Lanka . He was ordained bishop by Cardinal Secretary of State Jean-Marie Villot on October 3rd of the same year; Co- consecrators were the official in the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Curia Archbishop Duraisamy Simon Lourdusamy , and the Bishop of Ampurias e Tempio, Carlo Urru . On February 10, 1976, Carlo Curis became Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Sri Lanka. Paul VI appointed him on March 30, 1978 as Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Nigeria . On February 4, 1984, Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Cyprus and Apostolic Delegate in the Palestinian Territories . Carlo Curis was appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Canada on March 28, 1990 . On September 1, 1994, he became Apostolic Nuncio to Canada.
On February 4, 1999, Pope John Paul II accepted Carlo Curis' request to resign from the office of Apostolic Nuncio in Canada. He last lived in Rome and died a month before his 91st birthday in the posh Roman residential district of Parioli.
Curis was a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and Consultor of the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .
