Carolina Routier Cañigueral (born April 23, 1990 in Banyoles ), also Caro (l) Routier in Catalan media , is a Spanish triathlete . She is the Spanish U23 champion, elite sprint champion and aquathlon champion (U23 and elite) of the year 2011 as well as an Olympian (2016).

Career

European lifeguard champion 2008

Carolina Routier has been active in swimming since she was a teenager, she was a member of the Spanish national lifeguard team and European lifeguard champion in 2008.

Triathlon since 2009

In 2009 she started her first triathlon. In Catalonia, Routier competes for the clubs CN (Club natació) Banyoles, Club Triatló Costa de Barcelona-Maresme and Triatló Villanova (Inverse Ditec Triatló Vilanova) . At Circuit Català 2009 she came second.

Routier studies Public Relations at the Faculty of Tourism of the Universitat de Girona, for which she won the silver medal at the Spanish University Triathlon Championships.

Since 2012 she has competed in the races of the World Championship racing series on the Olympic distance and was able to finish the swimming distance as the leader in many of these starts.

In September 2013 she became Vice State Champion on the short distance triathlon.

2016 Summer Olympics

Carolina Routier competed for Spain at the 2016 Summer Olympics on August 20 in Rio de Janeiro - together with Ainhoa ​​Murúa and Miriam Casillas García . However, it was lapped and therefore not counted.

In July 2017, the then 27-year-old became the national champion of the triathlon sprint distance in Banyoles . She finished the 2017 World Championship series in September as the best of nine Spanish female athletes in 32nd place, and in 2018 she was the best Spanish female athlete in 50th place.

Routier's partner is the Spanish triathlete Mario Mola (ITU World Champion 2016, 2017, 2018).
