The Catlins Conservation Park is a nature reserve in the Otago and Southland regions , on the South Island of New Zealand . The park is subordinate to the Department of Conservation .

geography

The park is located at the southeast end of the South Island and, with its twelve individual areas, extends over the southeastern part of the Otago region and the eastern part of the Southland region . The areas are distributed over 50 × 50 km, with two large individual areas extending over the mountain ranges of the Forest Range and the MacLennan Range as well as the Beresford Range and a larger area is located northwest of Waikawa . All areas combined, the area of ​​the Conservation Park adds up to around 53,000  hectares .

The Catlins Conservation Park , previously called Catlins Forest Park and in some publications The Catlins Costal Rainforest Park , was given the status of a Conservation Park with the notice of May 22, 2009 in the New Zealand Gazette .
