Cecilia Brækhus (born September 28, 1981 in Cartagena , Colombia ) is a Norwegian boxer of Colombian descent and current welterweight champion of the WBA , WBC , WBO , IBF and IBO . Cecilia Brækhus grew up in Bergen , Norway, and has also lived in Berlin since 2008 and in Berlin-Hellersdorf since 2014 .
Life
Cecilia Brækhus was given to an orphanage by her biological parents after her birth in Colombia and was adopted by a Norwegian couple at the age of three. She grew up in Bergen and started kickboxing against her parents' wishes when she was 13 years old.

Since starting her career as a kickboxer at the age of 14 (European half-contact style), she has won various national awards and became European and world champion.
As an amateur boxer, she was vice European light welterweight champion in 2004 and Norwegian middleweight champion in 2005. At the 4th European Championships in Norway in May 2005, she won the gold medal in the light welterweight division. She beat Mandy Leunissen from the Netherlands (knockout), Larisa Pop from Romania (29:18) and the Russian Julia Nemtsowa (22:15). In September and October of the same year she also took part in the 3rd World Championships in Russia, where she won the silver medal in the light welterweight division. After victories against Elif Islak from Turkey (knockout), Alanna Murphy from Ireland (30:12) and Vinni Skovgård from Denmark (40:24), this time she lost to Julia Nemtsowa (23:34) in the final.
In 2006 she won the Norway Box Cup in Oslo , the Venus Box Cup in Vejle , the Witch Cup in Pécs , the Norwegian Championships in Oslo and the Nordic Championships in Tønsberg .
In total, she won 75 out of 80 amateur fights.
Professional career
On January 20, 2007 Cecilia Brækhus completed her first professional fight against the Croatian Ksenija Koprek and won unanimously on points. In November 2007, Cecilia Brækhus was accepted as the only woman to date in the boxing stable of the German boxing promoter Wilfried Sauerland . After nine more victories, she was on March 14, 2009 by unanimous victory on points against Vinni Skovgård world champion of the WBA and WBC welterweight.
After defending her title against the American Amy Yuratovac and the unbeaten Italian Lucia Morelli, on May 15, 2010, she was also world champion of the WBO and thus title holder of the three largest boxing associations by unanimously winning points against the American Victoria Cisneros. So far she has defended her titles in Germany, Denmark and Finland against Mikaela Laurén from Sweden, Éva Hajic from Serbia, the Americans Jill Emery, Chevelle Hallback and Ku'ulei Kupihea, as well as the German Jessica Balogun and the French Anne Sophie Mathis.
On April 13, 2013 she defeated the American Mia St John by tKo in the third round. In September, an early win against the undefeated Dominican Oxandia Castillo followed. In December 2013, Brækhus ended the longstanding collaboration with Ulli Wegner as a trainer; Otto Ramin became the new trainer.
In 2014 she defended her titles against Myriam Lamare and Jessica Balogun . On September 13, 2014, she defeated Ivana Habazin unanimously and thus also won the IBF World Championship title . She is the world title holder of all four major boxing associations. She defended this title unanimously against Jennifer Retzke in November 2014. At the end of 2014, she announced the end of her collaboration with Sauerland Event .
At the beginning of 2015 it was announced that she was moving to the Klitschko Management Group team around heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko and K2 Promotions around managing director Tom Loeffler. The new coach was Johnathon Banks . A year later, on February 27, 2016, she was also able to defend her title unanimously against Chris Namus.
She won her first fight in front of a home crowd on October 1, 2016 in a revenge match against Anne Sophie Mathis through tKO in the 2nd round. On February 24, 2017, she defended her title against the Swede Klara Svensson unanimously on points. In her hometown of Bergen, she defeated Erica Farias from Argentina again on June 9, 2017 with a unanimous victory on points. In Stokke on October 21, 2017, there was a fight for revenge against her former Sauerland teammate Mikaela Laurén from Sweden, which she won through tKO in the 6th round.
On May 5, 2018, she defeated the American Kali Reis with a unanimous victory on points. However, she had to go down for the first time on her US comeback in the 7th round. In Moscow on July 21, 2018, she defeated the Russian Inna Sagaydakovskaya clearly on points. On December 8, 2018, she won against Polish-born Aleksandra Magdziak-Lopes with a unanimous win on points. This fight was also the last fight in the USA, which was broadcast live on the TV channel HBO .
In August 2019, Brækhus announced the end of their collaboration with Johnathon Banks , who now works as the coach of ex-middleweight world champion Gennadi Golowkin . The new coach was the previous Golowkin coach Abel Sanchez . At the end of October 2019, she signed a promotion contract with Matchroom Boxing under boxing promoter Eddie Hearn . Your advisors remain boxing promoter Tom Loeffler ( 360 Promotions / GGG Promotions ) and the former two-time heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko ( Klitschko Management Group ). On November 30, 2019, she won in Monte Carlo against the Argentine Victoria Noelia Bustos with a unanimous victory on points. This fight was shown live and exclusively from the online streaming service DAZN transferred and was also her first fight for the Matchroom -Boxstall.

Cecilia Brækhus enjoys high popularity in the Norwegian population thanks to her sporting successes and her unusual biography, and since 2007, despite the cautious marketing strategies of Sauerland Event GmbH, increasingly in the European population, supported by appearances in TV formats and print magazines. Cecilia Brækhus' professional boxing matches are regularly broadcast on Norwegian television and, since their successful debut in the USA on June 22, 2008, they have also been broadcast to German-speaking television audiences on ARD.
