geography

The community has 19,501 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the province of Brindisi on the east coast of Italy , 35 km west of the city of Brindisi . Ceglie is located on a hill about 300 meters high.

The neighboring communities are Francavilla Fontana , Martina Franca ( TA ), Ostuni , San Michele Salentino , Villa Castelli .

Archaeological finds indicate that the district of the municipality was settled 4000 years ago. “Kailia” became an important military and economic center for the Messapiers . Later the area came under Roman rule. The finds from numerous excavations are now in the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto and in private collections.

The Specchia Miano (a tumulus ) has a diameter of 20 and a height of 11 meters, making it one of the largest in Apulia.
