Center of Excellence (NATO)
A Center of Excellence (COE) is a national or multinational military service within NATO that has been officially recognized by the Allied Command Transformation as a joint armed forces competence center for a key issue.
task
The tasks of the COE are to support Allied Command Operations (ACO) and Allied Command Transformation (ACT) through basic work, further development, and testing or review of concepts. They provide technical expertise for advice and also offer training and further education for management personnel and specialists from NATO nations and their partners. They serve as communication platforms through conferences, meetings and publications.
organization
The Centers of Excellence are not part of the NATO command structure . Nonetheless, as soon as they are officially recognized by the North Atlantic Council, they participate in NATO's legal personality under international law. This is preceded by an examination by the Allied Command Transformation (ACT), which leads to a recommendation regarding accreditation by the NATO Military Committee. ACT also coordinates the activities of the Centers of Excellence.
Funding is provided by the participating nations.
