The Chamois Niortais Football Club is a French football club from Niort , the capital of the Deux-Sèvres department in western France in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region .

The club was founded in 1925 by the owner of a tannery for chamois leather (French: chamoiserie ) under the name he has kept to this day. Chamois leather was traditionally made from chamois skins , which is why the association has the chamois as its heraldic animal - although the area around Niort is anything but mountainous. The club colors are blue and white; the league team plays at the Stade René Gaillard , which has a capacity of 10,900 seats.

The club's president is Joël Coué; the first team is currently being trained by Jean-Philippe Faure. (As of May 2016)

League affiliation

Niort has had professional status since 1987. First class ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 since 2002 ), the club only played in the 1987/88 season. In the 2015/16 season he will compete in Ligue 2 .
