Chaoyang ( Chinese 朝阳 市 , Pinyin Cháoyáng Shì ) is a district-free city in the west of the Liaoning Province in the People's Republic of China with around 3,426,000 inhabitants (2010) and an area of 19,736 km². Chaoyang is the fourth largest prefecture city in Liaoning by population.
Chaoyang is made up of two boroughs , two counties, an autonomous county and two independent cities. These are:
- Shuangta district (双塔 区), 211 km², 310,000 inhabitants, center, seat of the city government;
- Longcheng District (龙 城区), 346 km², 170,000 inhabitants;
- Chaoyang County (朝阳 县), 4,216 km², 620,000 inhabitants, seat of the county government in Shuangta Township;
- District Jianping (建平县) km² 4838, 580,000 inhabitants;
- Harqin Autonomous District Left wing of the Mongols (喀喇沁 左翼 蒙古族 自治县), 2,240 km², 420,000 inhabitants, main town: Dachengzi municipality (大城 子 镇);
- City of Beipiao (北票市), 4,583 km², 620,000 inhabitants;
- Lingyuan City (凌源 市), 3,297 km², 650,000 inhabitants.
