Chipitts

Chipitts is one of three megalopolises (alongside Boswash and Sansan ) in the United States of America .

The name is a portmanteau of the names of the cities Chicago and Pittsburgh , assembled, form the western and eastern boundary of the Megalopolis about. The term was created in 1961 by the French geographer Jean Gottmann. In English usage, the syllables are capitalized in the names of the megalopolis ( ChiPitts , BosWash and SanSan ). In the German-speaking context, however, only the first letter is usually capitalized.

Chipitts is located within the Great Lakes Region and is part of the US states of Wisconsin , Illinois , Indiana , Michigan , Ohio , Pennsylvania and New York . Parts of Chipitts overlap with the Rust Belt . More than 30 million people live in the megalopolis (as of 2006), which is around 10% of the total population of the USA. Sometimes the neighboring Québec-Windsor corridor in Canada is also counted as Chipitts. Together the population is about 54 million people.
